Come on, you have seen them on Thursday nights gathering at the local watering holes. Cagers by day, Goatheads for life. Back in 97 two guys decided to take their motorcycles for an innocent weekend ride. A day later, a third joined in. The three of them had a blast! They told their friends of the good times and decided to do it again in six months. By the next run they had doubled in size! Joking around one day, they came up with the roadname “Goatheads” for the group. They have been taking that ride twice a year since. There are more than forty in the group now!
They insist they are not a club or an organization, just a bunch of lone wolves that travel in a pack you might say? They describe themselves as a social group with a motorcycle problem. You can catch these biker addicts most Thursdays evenings at Chili Charlies as they begin the migration to other venues such as Mckee’s, Jake’s and Mad Dog’s. They are quite an eclectic group from doctors and engineers to contractors and restaurateurs. Their common thread is their zeal for bikes and their driven zest to explore the open road. Even though they are not an MC (biker slang for motorcycle club) they still try and support local motorcycle clubs around them, like the RiverRiders M/C, the Desert Road Riders M/C, the Choir Boys M/C, etc. They enjoyparticipating in various runs and fund raisers. The Goatheads have ridden thousands of miles on their hogs making memorable trips to infamous locals such as Sturgis, New Orleans, Hollister and Northern Californiaww just to name a few!

Like the Baja 1000, this is a team competition unlike any other PWC race. You need a real pit crew because like NASCAR, this is the only race where the boat is brought onto the shore and refueled during the race–multiple times. One team will walk away with the coveted Sea-Doo Team X Pit Crew award in recognition of their efforts. This is the endurance race to end all endurance races and here you will earn the ultimate bragging rights. Most competitors share the riding duties as it is terribly punishing for the five or so hours it takes for the first boat to complete the 300 miles of the race. School chums, father and son, and husband and wife teams abound.
